5.61 @ Work (11:50)

Comments: This run sucked! It was humid then got hotter, I had side pains for the first mile, around mile 4 my stomach decided to ‘flip’ on me and I was in need of a bathroom. That’s what I get for eating a Tim Horton’s breakfast sandwich in the morning and not bringing fluids with me! So, needless to say I walked a lot the last mile and a half. On top of that I didn’t even make it 6 miles. Crappy run…I am writing it off and forgetting about it. I went out did my best and that’s all I can do. Tomorrow will be a better day!

On a good note: Thanks to Nancy I now have my own Marathon Fairy from Blessthischick! Hopefully she’ll be with me on tomorrow’s run. 🙂

5.37 @ work (10:45)

Comments: The new Penguin shirt was ok, nothing to write home about, but also not bad. I like my MiT shirt better, maybe because it’s more flexible. – No, it is not a CoolMax 😦 –

The run overall felt good. I had side pains in the beginning, but that’s almost the norm now.

I read in an older Runner’s World magazine yesterday that the feeling of fatigue sometimes is caused by your brain sending signals to your legs (or other body parts) to slow down because they won’t be able to sustain that kind of work for a long time. Basically your brain slows you down due to self preservation.

During this run I tried to override my brain at times, making myself go a little faster, pushing a bit harder, while trying to watch my form. Going by my time it seemes to have paid off.

Tomorrow is a 6 miler on my list. Looks like I’ll be working late so I can take a long early lunch.

Elliptical Rider ~ 6 miles

Comments: I did some serious butt busting on the elliptical rider today to get my 6 miles in 50 minutes in. My legs are like jello now!

I got my “I am slow, I know…get over itt-shirt in the mail yesterday from John Bingham Racing and it fit just right! I am going to break it in this week and wear it on Sunday for the 1/2 marathon. It’s the little things in life that matter! 😉

Comments: Oh the humidity…yuck, yuck, and double yuck! But, I got another run behind me. Overall not bad, the first mile or two is always a killer and then it gets better. Around mile 3.5 my left foot started to hurt under the middle toe. The pain was manageable as long as I didn’t step on an uneven crack or a pebble/rock.

I am not sure how I am going to get my 6 miler in tomorrow; I simply can’t run that long at work, time wise. By the time I get home and everyone/everything situated I am usually too darn tired to get my “gear” on. So, I might just do cross training.

11 miles @ home (11:27)

Comments: Overall a good run. My main goal was to stay strong during mile 8 and I managed that. Last week come mile 8 I was ready to throw in the towel, I didn’t want to feel like that again. I ran that mile in 10:57.

Less than a quarter mile into the run I noticed that my Garmin was reading my turtle ‘speed’ miles per hour instead of minutes per mile. I made the adjustment while running and thought I was all set. Then I glanced at the Garmin at mile 3 and noticed that I hadn’t ‘moved’ since I messed with it last in the beginning. I had to think about Joe and got a good chuckle out of it! lol The Garmin shows me what time I started and I checked the time when I stopped, so the run times is just about right.

I GUed and drank at mile 4 and 8, other than that I was always running. My first 3 miles where my slowest and I noticed that it takes me about 2 miles before everything is working right and moving (somewhat) smoothly.

I was tired at mile 11 and very glad that I didn’t have to run 15 today, but I did feel much stronger than my July 21st 11-miler and I think that’s what this training is all about.

Now it’s off to Chucky Cheese’s for my daughter’s 7 birthday party. Come to think of it, I’d rather do a 15 miler than hang around that place;) Nah, it should be fun.

Time: 7:04 am

Clothes: Adidas shorts, MiT technical shirt, Fuel Belt

Shoes: Pearl Izumi

Distance: 11 miles

Time: 2:06:??

5.38 @ work (10:54)

Comments: The stupid weather alarm went off last night at 1am: Severe Thunderstorm watch, then again at 4am: Severe Thunderstorm warning *sigh*…then at 4:30am the storm rolled through. So much for running at home, so much for getting some good sleep!

I felt really sluggish at work, but knew that the temps would be in the 90’s come lunch time so I went running as soon as I got there. Something just felt off, so I decided to let my body be my guide and run as far and fast as it could handle. Side stiches set in immediatley *yay!*. But after about a mile or so everything fell into place and I was able to run a little faster then Tuesday! (Again, no water, no GU)

I kept putting this mental image of a strong runner in my head and tried to imitate that feeling/posture. It worked most of the time, but I was pretty drained coming back to work. I am glad I didn’t just hop on the elliptical rider though.

Weightlifting tonight and only 4 miles tomorrow. I LOVE fall back weeks!
