22 @ home (13:02)

Comments: I did it! Slower than I had hoped, but I did it! I ran 6 miles out, came back (home), changed fuel belts, grabbed a bagel and out I went again. That time for a 10 mile loop.

Some random thoughts and comments:

  • Saw two runners with dog (unusual because I live in the sticks), which was a great ‘pick me up’.

  • Jumped into the median several time because cars came to close to me. 😦
  • I know now why a lady took her shoes off before the end of the race at the Flying Pig…I wanted to do the same thing!

  • By the end I was sick of Gatorade and GU and was craving water.

  • Saw two cows trying to make a baby cow. 😮

  • Seeing the hubby’s car coming towards me at mile 20 was great (I thought he was checking up on me). But him telling me that he was heading to the hardware store was priceless! lol My daughter was kind enough to give me her bottle of water. 🙂

  • Running uphill at mile 21 sucks!

  • In the end walking hurts just as much as running.

  • Soaking feet in cold water after a long run feels soooo good!

I was hoping to run the marathon under 5 hours, but I’ll have to adjust that goal. This years goal is to finish, next years goal is to run faster!

Next weekend I am going up near Cleveland to watch some running friends run in the Towpath Marathon. It should be very inspirational and I am looking forward to the trip!

My worst fear

My worst fear right now is getting sick, catching someone’s cold or flue.

Sitting in class last night the lady in front of me was sniffling like crazy, blowing her nose, etc. (You can’t afford to miss a class so I don’t blame her for being there). She turns around and my hand immediately flies up to cover my mouth and nose. :O She wanted to know if we (me and the lady next to me) were going to the library after class for research. Heck no, not with you and your germs! But of course I didn’t say it that way. Instead I politely declined and hoped she’d keep her germs facing the other way.

Today in the elevator someone is in there with a cold, my step son visited a couple of days ago with a cold. It is everywhere!!!

I find myself taking extra vitamins and also washing my hands longer than usual. I am also making a conscious effort not to touch my eyes or mouth with my fingers, and trying to get enough sleep. These next three weeks are gonna be hell!!! 😉

I am taking today off to give my body rest for the 22 miles it has to endure tomorrow.

5.38 @ work (11:32)

Comments: Rinse and repeat, same as Monday, except it was a hotter: Right leg was pretty stiff in the beginning, but after I warmed up it was bearable. The ball of my left foot under the middle toe still starts hurting raound mile 3. 😦

Found out today that my employer will reimburse me some of my marathon entry fee (Employee Activity Reimbursement). NICE! 🙂

Bike @ home 12.02 miles

Comments: With the hubby out of town (meaning I can’t run in the PM and leave the youngest unattended) and tons of research to do for one of my classes I was not able to run today. I managed to hop on the stationary bike at home though for an hour.

The last 20 minutes flew by; the youngest came into the bedroom (where the bike’s at until the workout room is done) and pretended, feet in the air, to be peddeling her bike. We “raced” up and down hills, went around imaginary corners, and played “catch me if you can”. It was actually fun. 🙂

5.37 @ work (11:25)

Comments: Right leg was pretty stiff in the beginning, but after I warmed up it was good. Now, afterwards I just have to remind myself to get up every ten minutes so it won’t get too stiff.

The ball of my left foot under the middle toe still starts hurting after about mile 3, but the toe box is big enough, and my toes are thankful! 🙂

12 @ home (12:17)

Comments: Walked .10 of a mile every mile. Right leg was tight and ached the whole way; no knee pain though!!! The ache did not get worse and I did not get shin splint pains. Overall not a bad run.

The following day my right leg was very sore right above the knee in the back. I am pretty sure it’s just a muscle ache! My piriformis muscle is also aching, but not bad. Continuing with the iceing and stretching when possible.

Depending how next week 22 miler is going, which I am looking forward to by the way, I’ll make the decision on running the full or the half. Coming home after runing the 12 I felt I could have gone out and do it again. I am very happy about that.

Time: 7:14 am

Weather: not sure, but nice, overcast

ClothesMiT Technical Shirt, Adidas Shorts, Fuelt Belt

Distance: 12

Time: 2:27:24

Split: 12:17

Course: Through New Salem and back.

3 @ work (10:57) & 3 miles elliptical

Comments: The 10am, 3 mile run was not pleasant. The knee was ok, but the piriformis muscle made a starteling, painful comeback! In order to compansate the new ache I changed my gait and in turn got shin splint pains in my right leg. The pain was not too bad over all though (or maybe my pain tresh hold is going up) and I was able to finish the run in a very decent time.

I did not want to irritate the leg further so I did 3 miles on the elliptical rider before class in the PM.

Thoughts of changing over to the 1/2 marathon have entered my mind.

I am making tomorrow a rest day.

Time: 10am/4pm

Weather: 80/indoor

Clothes: Adidas Technical Shirt, Adidas Shorts/ Peguin Shirt, Izumi Shorts

Distance: 3/3

Time: 32:53/30:00

Split: 10:57/N/A

Course: To 670 underpass and back.

Mama’s got a brand new pair…

Saucony…of shoes!!!

I went to Front Runner today to get a new pair of shoes. I was either going to get the current shoe that I have only 1/2 bigger or something similar.

The sales person mentioned to me that he had the same Pearl pair but they only lasted him 69 miles! They started to show some severe wear on the outside. He showed me where mine had worn out in the same spot. He brought out the Pearl Izumi (1/2 larger) and the Asics Gel-2120.

The Asics felt better than the Pearl, but I was a bit gun shy because with the current Asics pair that I have (Gel-1120) my left foot starts hurting in the ball area after 2 or 3 miles. I might as well just save me the money and run in those.

Then he brought out the Saucony. They seemed to feel really good. He told me to go run around the block, which I did. To make a long story short: I ended up with the Saucony Trigony 5.

Of course now I want to go out there and try them out on a run. But, my body is tired, I will hold myself back and go at it tomorrow. School is starting back up for me tomorrow evening, so I might just hop on the elliptical rider with them (after all I don’t want to fall asleep in class), but I reserve the right to change my mind. Of course!
