4.5 miles @ work (11:34)

06 Sep

Comments: After a good nights sleep I actually felt the need to go out running today! Too funny how the body goes from “I really don’t want to go running today” to “You better get out there and give me my run!”  So this morning I scrambled to get all my running gear packed to take with me to work.

My right knee has been bothering me when going up and down the stairs, but it was not an issue during running, that was a relief. The first two miles however felt like I was wearing cement blocks instead of shoes. I was able to ‘shake them off’ after two miles and my body got into the familiar rhythm.

With my final exam in one of my classes tonight I didn’t want to be too tired and planned on running only 4 when I left for the run. During the run I started feeling good and thought I’d get that additional mile in there (after all I did have 6 on my schedule), but it seems like I came up a bit short. (My Garmin, which has been acting ‘goofy’ lately, read 4.23 miles and the runninghead.com has it mapped at 4.76, so I took the medium.)

The weather is suppose to break this weekend! I am so excited about that, specially with 6 and 7 milers during the week coming up.

Time: 7:00 AM

Weather: 70 degrees, 76% humidity

Clothes: Brooks Shirt, Brooks Shorts

Shoes: Pearl Izumi

Distance: 4.5

Time: 52:06

Split: 11:34

Course: To Goodale Park, circle 3 times, and back.

I love that feeling when the body demands the run. And this weekend should be so much nicer than the previous few days – even if the rain hits.

It is so wierd how your body says “I need a run” but it does happen. It’s also strange that the later miles are usually easier than the first ones. But that is a great feeling. I think that’s great progress!

That is cool when the body says get out there and run. Mentally, your brain is saying one thing and the physical is saying the complete opposite. I do think that is funny how a knee, achilles, foot or whatever can drive us crazy before we actually get out there and run. As soon as we get going all is forgotten and we are on our way. Great run and enjoy the upcoming 6 and 7.

Too weird–I’ve been having the knee on the stairs pain, but not while running experience too for the last week. I did some stengthening exercises and it’s gone away.

So hope the weather breaks for your running this weekend. Am excited following your progress toward Columbus. Hope you’re enjoying the anticipation!
