I made a (very stupid) mistake on Sunday and ran in new shoes, which is ok to do, but, as we all know, shouldn’t be done on a long run ~ slap me silly! Around mile 5, I noticed that a blister was forming in the arch of my right foot. This happened with my other shoes before so I was not too concerend, it didn’t bother me too much while running, and I had no problems after the run.
The foot seemed ok on Monday, but yesterday (Tuesday) it started to hurt in the afternoon. By the time I got home I was was no longer able to wear my shoe or sock. Inspection time: it seems like I am dealing with two blisters, but no infection. One deep blister and one slighly overlaying the deep one right under the skin, if that makes any sense. There is one small spot inside the deep blister where it seems to be bruised pretty good, which is causing the pain when I walk. I put some neosporin on it (to aid with the healing in case the blisters break) and now sport a nice, big band-aid covering the arch of my foot so it won’t rub against the sock while I am at work. So far it is not too bad.
I am suppose to run today, but I am going to wait until tomorrow to do so. I want to give the bruise/blister time to heal so I am not miserable on Satuday during the 1/2 marathon. If it hurts tomorrow I might take Friday off from work to keep my food up (other than going to Columbus to pick up my race packet and have nice pasta dinner!). If the blister does become an issue during the first 1/2 marathon, I’ll have 3 weeks to heal before the next 1/2.
The hubby gave me an incentive to run this upcoming 1/2 faster than I did last year. I asked for a necklace from Tarma Designs for this upcoming Mother’s Day:
He received it in the mail on Monday (I know this because he and a co-worker went in on an order together to save on shipping charges). He said that if I beat my time from last year I’ll get it after the run! 🙂 In my current condition I should finish the 1/2 in 2:36, where as last year I finished in it 2:45. I am soooo excited!
3 days until the 1/2 marathon
