6 Group Run (11:30)

Comments: I was thinking that running with the 11 min/mile group should be safe. But not today. After mile 3 I had to walk. Side stitches had kicked in after about 1.5 miles and they ever so kindly stayed with me for the remainder of the run.

After running last year mostly by myself I came to realize today that I am not a pack rat, meaning I can’t run with a group. The last 3 miles I ran behind the group and did much better than the first half. I do enjoy the people in my pace group, but the next time I’ll go I’ll be running behind them and not in the middle of them. I felt like I was running in someone else’s shoes, being that we were running 2 by 2 and I had to match the person’s steps in front of me in order not to step onto their feet.

Mile 1: 11:24
Mile 2: 11:27
Mile 3: 12:00 (water stop)
Mile 4: 11:14
Mile 5: 11:18
Mile 6: 11:35 (water stop at mile 5.5)

I am not thrilled about my time, but I am ok with it.

Comments: There are days when you have every intention to do well, but your body has other plans. Today was one of those those days. Mile 1 went fine 10:02, but then about the 1.5 mile mark I got some really nice side stiches and ran mile 2 in 11:23. I tried to concentrate on my breathing, but that didn’t help at all, so mile 3 was 11:53. So sad.

I noticed that depending on the time of the month my body performs differently. Just after having my period my runs are strong and I have lots of engery, but the week before my period starts it’s like trying to pull an old mare off the pastures and entering her into the K3ntucky Derby. It’s not a pretty sight.

So, I am content with my run today and I am looking forward to tomorrows group run.

3.9 @ work (11:02)

Comments: I am so darn busy at work I don’t know if I am coming or going and on top of that my PC’s hard drive crashed. When it rains it pours. But today I am back at it, working late to (hopefully) get caught up!

I managed to get 3.9 miles in yesterday at lunch. It was a really nice run, the weather was great and I enjoyed the oldies I was listening to while running. I am really trying to concentrate on my form, chest out, arms in, don’t drag the feet.

On Tuesday night the hubby and I got me a ‘new baby’. A new quad (4 wheeler). She’s a beauty: an ’08 Yamaha 250 Raptor Special Edition. It leaves my ’06 Suzuki 250 Quadsport in the dust! She handles so much better (much lighter) and the shifting is so much smoother. Granted I am still improving my clutch work, but I no longer stall her! 🙂

Here is a shot of our newest addition with the proud “daddy” in the background, the hubby’s ’06 Yamaha YFZ450 Special Edition.

I did not run today, but rather let my legs rest and worked through lunch. I am looking forward to the group run on Saturday. Should be fun!

Here are a few other pictures…not the best…but oh well. 🙂

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (74.4 miles)

Comments: Vacation was great. With the help of books on CD the 8 hour trip up and back seemed really short.

We rode our quads in the Silver Lake Sand Dunes every day until our daughter and B’s parents joined us on Thursday evening. Friday we took the Blazer out into the dunes and on Saturday we went sight seeing.

Michigan is a very pretty state. I recommend a visit, specially to the Lake Michigan/Ludington area.

I didn’t get any running in, but managed to ride our bicycles on the first Sunday and walked a lot the following Saturday. The only drawback of riding the quads all week was that it was very hard on my knees.

So today’s run was intentionally a slow one. I enjoyed it and it felt good to be back out there, even though it was VERY humid.

Time: 10 am

Weather: Not sure…very humid though

Clothes: Cotton shirt and NB shorts

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (71.4 miles)

Comments: We are going on vacation tomorrow to go quadding (riding 4 wheelers) at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan. Unlike last year where we stayed at a hotel, this year we are staying at a friend’s cabin about 1/2 an hour away from the dunes. Originally our friends were going to stay with us, but life got in the way and now it’s just the hubby and I until Thursday.

Thursday my parent’s in law and our youngest daughter are coming up to join us until Sunday. It should be a lot of fun!

So, with that said….I ran my long run today, being that we will be stuck traveling in the SUV most of the day.

Overall I had a great run, other than the neighbors’ dog chasing me. I tried to be friendly, but learned (once again) that it doesn’t work for that dog so I just stood there until he lost interest in me and started to wander off, still barking. I was trying for the rest of the run to push negative thoughts about that dog and its no good owner out of my head. Luckily I did not encounter him nor the neighbor on the way back. The dog had wandered too far into their back yard to be a threat to me. Thank goodness.

Like I said, I had an overall good run: I ran three miles straight and then walked for just a little bit every mile after. It worked out well considering at mile 2.5 it’s uphill for 3/4 of a mile. But I know it’s only making stronger and in turn faster.

I am not sure what the roads will be like up north, but I’ll make an effort to get a couple runs in.

See you all next week.

Comments: After yesterday’s blunder with the eating and working out late I am back on track today. The run was great! Faster than yesterday! I did bring my music with me and I actually think that the slower songs slowed me down! lol My Garmin didn’t kick in until .30 miles into the run.

Since I stopped running with my baseball hat I seem to have a straighter posture. I am also working on keeping my elbows closer to my side and try not to look like a “bird attempting to take off” (my husband’s words, not mine lol). Once I get the run straighter and looking less birdlike under control I want to work on my how hard my feet hit the ground when running. But I have many years yet to perfect all that.

Tomorrow is a rest day. I will be doing my long run on Friday after work. On Saturday we are heading north on vacation and I won’t have time to run that day. I am hoping that I’ll be able to get one or two runs in while we are there.

Kspin, I am still trying to think of what to do/make…maybe I’ll come across something while on vacation!

Comments: The legs were really tired from yesterday’s hard run, so I was deciding about using the elliptical rider or just skipping the workout all together and walk to our favorite sandwich shop for lunch wit’ the husband. But then I remembered the promise to myself and sent the hubby an e-mail telling him that I wanted to “walk, walk” for lunch.

He takes his lunch a bit later than I do, so at 11:30, equipped with shorts and walking shoes we were out the door. I told him we’d walk out 1.5 miles and back 1.5.

We started off at a good speed (left my Garmin at my desk), and made it to the 1.5 mile mark in a decent time. But then, all of a sudden, like a tire going flat, I felt drained. My leg wobbled and my brain was wishy washy. Thank goodness the symptoms weren’t too bad and we managed to walk back the 1.5 to work without any problems.

Once we got cleaned up I gobbled my food down like there was no tomorrow!

I figure with us working out an hour and half later than I am used to I just didn’t have enough food in me to handle the exercise. Lesson learned!

Clothes: MiT Shirt, and NewBalance shorts

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (60.3 miles)

Comments: My big debate whether I should listen to my book on tape or music turned out to be a mute one; I had left my headset at home! Doh! Instead I just listened to my body and breathing.

My intentions to run the whole 3 miles without walking worked! I kept telling myself that I managed to run 2 miles without walking, so what’s one more mile. Turns out this was one of my best runs in a very, very long time.

Mile 1: 10:17 Mile 2: 10:21 Mile 3: 10:08

I am soooo excited about the splits! I am running a 10k on June 8th and I am really hoping that I’ll be faster than I was on Saturday.

Tomorrow is weightlifting day, but my wrist is still sore and with vacation comin’ up next week I don’t want to push my luck. The elliptical rider will have to do, or I might go out for an easy run.

10k @ home (10:53) + 1.8 miles (13:13)

Comments: I was looking forward to the 10 on the 10th all week…today was the day! I made sure I went to bed early and got some good rest the night before. I really didn’t have a game plan, other than that I wanted to do well and run a total of 8 miles.

Those that follow my blog know that I usually run 5 minute walk 1 minute. It has worked well for me in the past, but if I want to run a 5 hour marathon I really need to start running more/faster….so I decided to run 2 miles and walk a little.

That’s just what I did. The only time I really struggled was at mile 4 and I walked more than I really should have. I had head wind just about the whole time and the last .3 of mile 3 where uphill (excuses, excuses, I know 😉 ) so I walked about two minutes to catch my breath.

The last two miles were hard, but I pictured my blogging friends behind me, pushing me, and also in front of me, pulling me. And I finished the 10k in 1 hour, 07 minutes and 23 seconds. (notice the the watch reading 6.21, I missed the stop button on my Garmin the first time around lol) I am VERY HAPPY with my running time!

I noticed a blister forming on my right food in the arch around mile 5, so I decided to take it really easy after the 6.2 and finished the last 1.8 at a 13.13 minute pace. I am pretty sure now that the blister is caused by my socks. I wore different socks (Brooks) during the 1/2 marathon, today I wore my Wright socks. I’ll have to go out and buy more of the Brooks.

Thanks Nancy for making me go out there and doing this! I am looking forward to the next one.

Hills x 4 (3 miles)

Comments: Once again my body amazes me. I was certain that I’d die doing hills, but nope, I am still going. Granted, my legs are a bit tired, none the less I am still upright! I wanted to get 3 miles in, but that meant 4 repeats on the hill, which is only .15 miles long, but steep.

I am very happy with my time and how I am feeling afterwards. Tomorrow is rest day! I have worked my body hard over the last week and it deserves some rest. Now I just need someone to tell my brain that!

Time: 10:00 am

Weather: 61, drizzle

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (46.3)
