The run was ok until about mile 2, then I started getting side pains and actually had to walk a bit. After mile 4 I was fine and felt like a well oiled piece of machinery.

Team in Training

Greetings dear Family, Friends, Visitors, fellow Runners and Bloggers;

In order to make my running more of a challenge and give it a deeper meaning I have commitmented to running the Captial City 1/2 Marathon for/with Team in Training, which is know for its fund raising efforts to fight Leukemia and Lymphoma.

My pledge to The LLS is to raise between $1,500 to $2,000 by April 8th.

I am currently waiting to receive the information to set up my my personalized website to accept donation. Once I do I will update this post.

I am looking forward to this challenge and hope you join me, motivationally and financially, on my quest to help people in need, while doing something I enjoy.

Thank you in advance for your support.

– Penny

Cold, but fast 4

Comments: The cold weather wants me to stay inside. Today, getting ready to run, it felt like going to a second job. Hmmm… I enjoy the runs once I hit mile 2, but lately I have a hard time getting out the door and it’s easy for me to find a reason not to go.

Tomorrow night the hubby and I are going to an informational meeting for Leukemia “Team in Training”. I am hoping that it will get me back into the ‘wanting’ to run. If their training is for me then I’ll be training and raising money for them for the 1/2 marathon I plan on running in May. I wish the breast cancer foundation would have something like that. But you know, cancer is cancer and it needs to be eradicated!

Time: 10:20 am

Weather: 33!!!, overcast

Distance: 4

Run Time: 38:47 (2nd fastest 4 miler for me)

Course: To Goodale Park, x 2 and back.

Only 5

Comments: The last week just didn’t work out the way I wanted to workout wise. It extended into the weekend. I did not run on Saturday, so many things to get done. Sunday morning I woke up with a headache and a left ovary that just wanted to make sure I knew it was still there and working *sigh*.

As I laid in bed, already dressed in running clothes, waiting for the Tylenol to kick in I contemplated not running at all. But, after talking to the hubby, we decided that I should only go out for 5, I had planned to go for 10. That way I did not need to bring a running belt or GU with me, but was able to get some mileage in.

The run was good. My headache subsided and my ovary quit making itself noticeable during the run. Nothing better than a good run as a pain suppressor.

At mile 2.5, the turn around point, my watch read 25 minutes on the dot. To my amazement it read 50 minutes at mile 5. My fastest 5 miler yet.

  • First run in long running pants since last winter. 😦

Time: 8:30 am

Weather: 40, overcast

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid Guide ( 131.53 miles)

Distance: 5

Run Time: 50:00

Split: 10:00

Course: To Elder Road and back

Yucky 4

Comments: A tempo run was on the schedule today, but I could tell before my body left the warm bed this morning that it would be a wasted effort. I should have just rolled over and stayed in bed. 😉

The 4 miles I ran instead were just as much a struggle as the 3 mile tempo run would have been. I simply am not in synch today and it was very apparent during my run.

I was breathing hard a mile one already and had to concentrate on my breathing pattern (that usually doesn’t happen until about mile 6 or 7). Mile 2 was just as tough, and as I was starting into mile 3 I got side pains.  They accompanied me all the way back to work.

Tomorrow will be a better day. I’ll be lifting weights! :o)

Time: 10:00 am

Weather: 51, sunny

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid Guide ( 127.53 miles)

Distance: 4

Run Time: 40:20

Split: 10:05

Course: To Goodale Park, x 2 and back

1/2 Marathon Picture

I had 4 professional pictures to choose from, but it turns out only one is not harmful to my (or everyone elses’) eyes so I thought I’d share it with you.

Bench Pressing & Biking

Comments: With running yesterday I decided to do the bike as warmup today and I enjoy reading the gossip magazines while my legs to all the work. The machine turned off before I got a chance to look at the stats.

Time: 10:00 am

Workout: Stationary Bike

Level: 3

Time: 20 minutes

Miles: (about) 7 miles

Calories: ??

Strength Training:

  • Bench Press:
    • 1 x 12 x 65 lbs
    • 1 x 10 x 75 lbs
    • 1 x 8 x 85 lbs
    • 1 x 4 x 95 lbs (missed the last two)
    • 1 x 0 x 115 lbs (bar plus 35 lbssers, got talked into that one by the hubby & friend, but it wasn’t meant to happen today)
    • 1 x 0 x 100 lbs (my arms were tired)
  • Hyperextentions 1 x 20
  • Tricep Pull Downs 2 x 20 x 5 blocks

Right now, in order to participate in the Arnold Classic Pump and Run I need to be able to lift 135 lbs (70% of my body weight). I seriously need to loose some weight to lower that. I’ll see were things are come the end of this month and might just sign up. The competition is not until April I believe.

Nice 9

Comments: Things were to busy for me on Saturday to go run. I treked outside Sunday morning and was suprised to find that I didn’t need a long sleeve shirt nor gloves!

My legs felt a little sluggish and it seemed like I was running a bit in molasses for the first few miles. That feeling subsided after about 3.

Things went good and I was in my zone for the next 4 miles. Gosh, how I love that feeling!

Starting around mile 7 I developed a side stich, which stayed with me for the last 2 miles.

Overall a good run even though I felt slow.

Time: 8:00 am

Weather: 45ish

Clothes: MiT Shirt, Izuma Shorts, Fuelt Belt

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid Guide ( 114.53 miles)

Distance: 9

Run Time: 1:35:21

Split: 10:36

Course: 9.5 mile loop (walked the last .5)
