Strength Training & Push Ups

Comment: No running today, which is a good thing, my legs are still pretty tired from last night. I am dissapointed with the amount of push ups I was able to do. 18 is 2 less than last week. I did feel tired this morning though. Instead of moving on to the next week or repeating last weeks I am going to move up in the row, increasing the amount of PUs, but not as much as week 3 has. Hopefully I’ll be able to start Week 3 next week!

My strength training went well. I’ll have to check out a few different types of exercises for the same muscles. Doing the same ones every time gets a bit boring.

Push ups exhaustion: 18 (very dissapointing)

Pull Downs: 1 x 20 (#6), 1 x 15 (#6) (Increase in weight)

Tricep Pull Downs: 2 x 20 (#4) (need to go up 1/2 #)

Rows: 2 x 20 (50 lbs)

Bicep Curls: 2 x 20 (10 lbs)

Bench Press: 1 x 30 (45 lbs – bar only)

Back Bends: 2 x 15 (legs felt tight)

Group Run 8 miles (11:51)

Comments: Started off with the slower group, but pulled away from them at mile 3. My fastes mile was mile 8!!! I ran around Antrim Park thinking about running the 10 miler race there next weekend. I am still on the fence about that being that it doesn’t start until 9am. I’ll make that decision later on in the week, depending on the weather forecast.

Went quadding on Sunday. My legs were not sore at all from the 8 miler and the pushups I have been doing really helped with the handling of the quad. Hence I had a blast in the mud.

Hills x 4 (4 miles), Push Ups

Comments: Today I did not want to go out and run. Was tired and didn’t feel like climbing hills. So I made it a coworker’s job of the morning to convince me that I should go. She wasn’t very good, but to her credit I trotted out the door.

I added an additional mile to my hill workout. Instead of running one mile then doing hills for a mile and then running for another mile, I ran 1.5 before and after. My legs are tired and aching, but my soul feels good. 🙂

The goal is to have those hill workouts make me a stronger runner. Time will tell.

I did not do push ups last night. My chest was pretty sore from Tuesday’s weight lifting. I am hoping to get them in tonight.

4 @ work (10:48) & Push Ups

Comments: It felt hot outside. I brought water. I walked once after mile two and then again after mile 3, but was only 4 seconds slower than last week. While I was running I was telling myself that it is ok to be slower, because I felt felt so hot. I was also telling myself to not slack off, my body needs to get used to the heat and running in 65 degree weather doesn’t do me any good if the actual race should be in the 70’s or 80’s.

The schedule called for 5 miles so I’ll hop on the bike tonight at home if I have time.

Time: 10:00 am

Weather: 80 sunny

Clothes: MiT tank top, NB shorts

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (168.1 miles)

Distance: 4

Time: 43:11

Split: 10:48

Course: To Goodale Park, 2 loops, and back.

Exhaustion Test: 20 (Going back to week 2, but start in 2nd column)

Comments: Good run. Much like yesterday, minus the calve pain and rain, but with sun rays making me feel like a chicken cooking in an oven. Put a fork in me, I am done! 😉

I have to repeat week 2 in my push up routine. I’ll tend to that tonight.

Time: 10:00 am

Weather: 65, sunny

Clothes: MiT shirt, NB shorts

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (149.1 miles)

Distance: 4

Time: 44:28

Split: 11:07

 Week 2 – Day 1: 4 x 4 x 3 x 3 x 15 (stronger than last week!)

4 @ work (10:57)

Comments: My legs felt heavy and my joints stiff. The first mile was painful, my calves felt really really right. I’ll need to run “the stick” over them tonight because they are still tight.

It was overcast and drizzling on and off outside and it was actually a bit chilly. Kinda nice! Ran the 4 miles straight, no stopping.

My Garmin Forerunner 205, after I start sweating, starts sliding up and down my wrist and usually rubs against the wrist bone. Adjusting the band does not help (I miss the velco the 201 had). I think I have remedied this situation by buying a wrist sweat band that I now wear under the watch. The watch can’t slide and my wrist bone stays unbruised.

My shoes only have 150 miles on them and they are already wearing off in the heal area. *sigh*

Time: 10:00 am

Weather: 65, overcast, drizzling

Clothes: MiT shirt, NB shorts

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (145.1 miles)

Distance: 4

Time: 43:47

Split: 10:57

Course: To Goodale Park, 2 loops and back.

Pushups:

Exhaustion Test: 15 (wow!!! but not good enough to go on, I’ll have to repeat week 2 😦 )

6 – Long Run (11:31) & Push Ups

Comments: Slow but good run. Did not run with the group today and my speed shows it, but I felt good during the last mile.

I messed up and didn’t hit start on my Garmin and missed the first 0.94 miles of the run. So I used the average of the 5.06 to come up with a total running time.

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (121.2 miles)

Distance: 6
