3.09 @ work (10:04)

Comments: After yesterday’s blunder with the eating and working out late I am back on track today. The run was great! Faster than yesterday! I did bring my music with me and I actually think that the slower songs slowed me down! lol My Garmin didn’t kick in until .30 miles into the run.

Since I stopped running with my baseball hat I seem to have a straighter posture. I am also working on keeping my elbows closer to my side and try not to look like a “bird attempting to take off” (my husband’s words, not mine lol). Once I get the run straighter and looking less birdlike under control I want to work on my how hard my feet hit the ground when running. But I have many years yet to perfect all that.

Tomorrow is a rest day. I will be doing my long run on Friday after work. On Saturday we are heading north on vacation and I won’t have time to run that day. I am hoping that I’ll be able to get one or two runs in while we are there.

Kspin, I am still trying to think of what to do/make…maybe I’ll come across something while on vacation!

Comments: The legs were really tired from yesterday’s hard run, so I was deciding about using the elliptical rider or just skipping the workout all together and walk to our favorite sandwich shop for lunch wit’ the husband. But then I remembered the promise to myself and sent the hubby an e-mail telling him that I wanted to “walk, walk” for lunch.

He takes his lunch a bit later than I do, so at 11:30, equipped with shorts and walking shoes we were out the door. I told him we’d walk out 1.5 miles and back 1.5.

We started off at a good speed (left my Garmin at my desk), and made it to the 1.5 mile mark in a decent time. But then, all of a sudden, like a tire going flat, I felt drained. My leg wobbled and my brain was wishy washy. Thank goodness the symptoms weren’t too bad and we managed to walk back the 1.5 to work without any problems.

Once we got cleaned up I gobbled my food down like there was no tomorrow!

I figure with us working out an hour and half later than I am used to I just didn’t have enough food in me to handle the exercise. Lesson learned!

Hills x 4 (3 miles)

Comments: Once again my body amazes me. I was certain that I’d die doing hills, but nope, I am still going. Granted, my legs are a bit tired, none the less I am still upright! I wanted to get 3 miles in, but that meant 4 repeats on the hill, which is only .15 miles long, but steep.

I am very happy with my time and how I am feeling afterwards. Tomorrow is rest day! I have worked my body hard over the last week and it deserves some rest. Now I just need someone to tell my brain that!

Comments: I felt pretty stiff going into it, and it didn’t really improve during the run, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad run, just not a very fast one. I’ll be doing some stretching tonight when I get home.

My wrist is still swollen (not as bad as yesterday), but it did not hurt while I ran. I was a bit worried that it might.

Comments: So…what’s up with that: SNOW? This morning as I am letting the dog out to go sniff the yard I am greeted by snow flakes! Time to check the calendar…yep it IS almost May..WTH!

So, instead of running outside I plan on running inside, but then somehow decide to pack my running jacket and gloves, but forget my out running pants, which I don’t realize until I am in the gym. *sigh*

At lunch time the snow had cleared and the sun was peaking out, so instead of attacking the treadmill I do decide to go run outside after checking the weather…41 degrees. The gym bag reveals the lack of outside running pants! I want to go outside, the long pants (yet very thin) have to do. I opt to run glove-less.

Oh, and I forgot to bring my Garmin. *sigh* But it was a good run none the less. 🙂

I checked the Indianapolis 500 mini marathon route. We do one lap inside the Indianapolis Speedway…I can’t wait! We are staying at the Westin, which is located 8 feet from the starting corral!

3 miles @ work (10:45)

Comments: The song from Daniel Powter “Bad Day” fits today. But I was able to turn it around! I am feeling 100% better after my run, perhaps a bit tired, but I’ll take that.

I ran the first mile straight without stopping (10:10) and I haven’t done that since my training for the full marathon in October ’07. Then I walked a minute and then ran until I had mile 2 (10:57) under my belt. I did the same to get mile three done (11:08). I am hoping to be able to continue that trend.

My stomach still acts up several times a day, however it doesn’t give me trouble while running. After May 3rd (Indy 1/2 marathon) I’ll be going back to the gastologist requesting that he’ll do a colonoscopy. The pain however is nothing compared to what I had in the beginning of the year. None the less I think it’s come to a point where it is not getting any better.

Stopped at the Columbus Running Co last night. I bought a shirt and some “Yankz” shoe laces (Pink “For the Cure”). I still have $40 left of my gift certificate! My running shoes were at work and I wasn’t able to put the laces on last night. So first thing this morning I tried putting them on my shoes, it didn’t feel right. But I haven’t given up. The shoes are coming home tonight and I’ll be able to spend more time on getting the laces just right. 🙂

I also bought a running shirt, but didn’t try it on. The plan was to wear it today at lunch, but with me being so overweight my current build it doesn’t look very flattering. I am going to hold on to the shirt and my goal is to be able to wear it before the summer is over. It sucks being vein!

Fun facts: My previous shoes had 294 miles on it, bringing the cost to $0.31 per mile ran! Hmmm, it is cheaper to drive that distance in my car (for now at least).

Comments: My Garming displayed it’s “Battery Low” sign shortly after I turned it on. I knew I had forgotten something! *Mental note: Charge the Garmin once in a while!* So, about 7 minutes into the run I was ‘on my own’.

The run itself was ok; both my calves hurt after about a 1/4 mile and then my right shin started to hurt again as it did Friday. After a mile I stopped and stretched, that seemed to help a bit. Yet whenever I walked my right leg felt like it had a club food attached, something was not working right. But, it didn’t hurt any longer though, so I continued.

Sitting here in front of my computer my legs feel tight…I need to remember to give them the ‘stick’ treatment tonight to work some of that tighness out.

2.8 @ work (11:06)

Comments: The blisters are better. I can still feel them, but the urge to go outside today won and I promised myself to stop running should it become irritated.

The run was nice. I was trying to pretend that is was the first few miles of the 1/2 marathon. Going through a preflight check list so to speak. Making sure all engines are fireing and there is no major malfunctioning going on. The first mile is always a bitch when you are not warmed up. The second mile is not much better, but by the time the third rolls around things are good to go.

Even though I only ran (a bit under) 3 miles today I did go through the whole race in my mind:

  • Mile 4, 5, and 6 would be easiest part of the race. Those are my favorite miles to run.
  • During 7 and 8 I will try to relax my body as much as possible.
  • Sometime during mile 9 and 10 (I think) there will be cobble stone and I’ll have to watch my step (unless they changed the route), my feet will be sore and hitting them wrong will be like running on broken glass with no shoes on.
  • Mile 11 will be hard for me, uphill at times, if I remember correctly, but I’ll push through, because I just did 11 last week and was fine.
  • The 12th mile is dedicted to my boss who broke his leg skiing last month and was suppose to run the race. Last year he and his wife stood at mile 12 cheering me on. This year he won’t even be able to do that.
  • More than likely the last mile will be pure survival and not much of a thought process will be going on then! lol

Cranky, I almost signed up for the NY marathon (lottery) after reading your post that you might have no one to run with….but when I saw the entry fee of $155, I decided I need to make sure that’s what I really want to do this year! lol

Tomorrow I am taking the day off work…I shall put my feet up and not move much until the evening when we are meeting some friends for dinner at the Olive Garden for my pre-race dinner. Yummy!

1158 is my bib # should I have not mentioned it before.

I am ready to run…

Comments: 3 seconds faster than Tuesday and today I got stuck at a light for about 20 sec!!! I thought I was underdressed, but it turned out I was dressed just right. 🙂

I am off to the Gastroenterologist this afternoon…hopefully he can figure the pain out, which I still have on a daily basis, just not as bad as back in December/January.

Cranky, I wish you the best of luck this weekend! I hope you have fun running the 1/2. That’s what it is all about!

Comments: According to my Garmin I ran the first mile in 9:44! *gasp* I did feel really strong, but then my second mile was more in sync with what I usually run, 11:02. The third mile was 10:50 (not bad).

I bought new running shoes at Front Runner. I was under the impression Saucony no longer made my shoe “ProGrid Trigon 5 Guide”, because I could no longer find them on the internet. But it turns out the shoe just underwent some cosmetic changes and they renamed it to “ProGrid Gruide”. So all is well in the Land of Feet. I was dreading having to look for new shoes, but I walked away a happy customer.

I am hoping to have them broken in before the first 1/2, if not that’s ok. I have not looked at the sole of my current shoes in a while, but last night I did. The rubber part on the outside heal of both shoes is scuffed off! I contribute that to my shuffle running (not getting my feet very high of the ground). I’ll have to work on the being that they only have 300 miles on them!
