6 mile group run

Comments: Great group run. I took off with the 11 min/mile group, but they ended up going just a bit faster than that. Around mile 3, just before the water stop I pulled away. I got ‘picked up’ by two of the runners from the group and they settled into a 10 min mile pace. So I ran with them. I felt very good, very strong. And it was nice to be passing people and be in step with other runners. I almost felt like a Kenyan! lol

If I’ll  remind myself to go slow next week in the beginning I should have a really good race. I am curious to see what my body is capable of.

I wish good luck to all the runners that are racing tomorrow. You’ll be on my mind!

6 @ home (10:57)

Comments: Ran the first 4 miles without stopping. 41:57 (10:30 min/mile). I felt a little tired, but still pretty good.

At about mile 3.25 I cross a road and have to slow down to check for traffic. After crossing I started back into my trott and noticed a little tightening in my left calve. I have had that before so I thought nothing of it.

At mile 4.6 I was reminded of the pain, but in a sharp way! It hurt! I could only walk. So I did that for a while and tried running. The calve was tight, but once I got going it didn’t hurt too bad. I could however, feel in my legs that I was running differently and parts further up got tight.

I managed to get home in a decent time. Next time I’ll make sure I have my cell phone with me so I can just call home to be picked up. Sitting here now, after icing the calve it is pretty darn tight and hurts. I hope that I’ll be able to do the Baltimore (Ohio) 5k on Saturday.

Comments: Great run, wish I could have picked it up the last mile, but that didn’t happen. Drank at mile 2 and 4. GUed at 4. Fastest 6 miles since I started keeping track of my mileage (other than my 10k time). I am excited!

6 – Long Run (11:31) & Push Ups

Comments: Slow but good run. Did not run with the group today and my speed shows it, but I felt good during the last mile.

I messed up and didn’t hit start on my Garmin and missed the first 0.94 miles of the run. So I used the average of the 5.06 to come up with a total running time.

6 Group Run (11:30)

Comments: I was thinking that running with the 11 min/mile group should be safe. But not today. After mile 3 I had to walk. Side stitches had kicked in after about 1.5 miles and they ever so kindly stayed with me for the remainder of the run.

After running last year mostly by myself I came to realize today that I am not a pack rat, meaning I can’t run with a group. The last 3 miles I ran behind the group and did much better than the first half. I do enjoy the people in my pace group, but the next time I’ll go I’ll be running behind them and not in the middle of them. I felt like I was running in someone else’s shoes, being that we were running 2 by 2 and I had to match the person’s steps in front of me in order not to step onto their feet.

Mile 1: 11:24
Mile 2: 11:27
Mile 3: 12:00 (water stop)
Mile 4: 11:14
Mile 5: 11:18
Mile 6: 11:35 (water stop at mile 5.5)

I am not thrilled about my time, but I am ok with it.

Time: 7:30 am

Weather: Not sure, but it was friggin’ humid!

Clothes: MiT Shirt and NB shorts

Shoes: Saucony ProGrid (81.3 miles)

Distance: 6

Time: 1:08:55

Split: 11:30

Course: Group run, up and down the Olentangy Bikepath.

6 @ home (11:50)

Comments: I knew my time would be slow before I headed out the door, but I was fine with that. I orignally planned on running 11, but only had one GU left. I figured I could run 8 instead, but then a time crunch on Sunday reduced that down to 6.

No dogs on that run…how nice is that!

Getting mentally ready for the Indianapolis 500 1/2 marathon, which is next Saturday. Making preparations with friends to get the car pooling and picking up, etc in place.  Fun, fun. 🙂
