Ever since yesterday’s run I was wondering “will my knee be better tomorrow?”, “will I be able to run the 13 or so miles to the in-laws’ house?” It was aching off and all day yesterday, pushing itself into my conscious thought process.
Today I found out and the answer is “NO!” 😦
The knee was feeling fine when I woke up and I was in good spirits. It was 7am when I headed out the door. I decided to walk the first ½ mile just to get my body warmed up (the muscles rather, because it was pretty darn warm outside already). No knee pains.
But once I started running it gradually started to ache. It took me a ½ mile of internal conversations/discussion/debate to ‘call it a day’. The runner in me wanted to see how far I could really go before the knee blew, but (luckily) my brain won the battle and I stopped & turned around.
I don’t think I have ever been so disappointed in a very long time. With tears of frustration streaming down my face I wobbled that long mile home. And as if the knee ache wasn’t enough, someone “upstairs” decided to open up the flood gates and by the time I got home I was soaking wet. When it rains it pours, right??? lol
After the shower I took a closer look at my knee and noticed that it is slightly swollen just above the knee cap, that’s where the pain is at. There and under the knee cap. (Runner’s knee?)
My game plan is to wait at least until Monday, possibly Wednesday before I run again. I plan on doing some strength training tomorrow if the knee lets me. If it still not better than off to the doctor I go.
To get my mind of things I decided to indulge myself by playing World of Warcraft, a massive multiplayer online role playing game, all afternoon. That’s something I have not done in a long time.
So, in front of my laptop I sit, one hand on the mouse guiding my little character around, beating on things and the other hand on my knee holding an icepack in place. Life is good!
I have not given up yet, after all, I still have plenty of time to get back on track…or so I hope.
