Ready, set,….3693

>>>2 days to go to the Columbus Marathon<<<

In 2 days and 8.5 hours I’ll be down there, getting ready for my first marathon…oy! Can you say EXCITED?? That is the view out of my office overlooking the starting line. I have decided to take tomorrow off so my co-workers won’t have me committed! ūüėČ

I’ll be doing some elliptical stuff tonight before class. I hope I can keep my legs from bouncing up and down while I have to listen to the teacher lecture.

>>>My bib number is 3693<<< according to maptracker.

Edit: Did 3.8 miles (40 min) on the elliptical rider after work.

3 miles @ home (11:21)

Comments: My training required 3 miles today. First time actually running in the rain (not counting my¬†short lived¬†13 miler in September). As I am running I am trying to keep my tempo slow. My body just wants to get the run done as fast as possible, but my mind is telling it “slow down, you need to pace yourself.”

People keep asking me what time I plan on running the marathon. That is really tough for me because I still haven’t learned to pace myself. I know if I go out any faster then 11 min/mile the first few miles I’ll be crawling the last few miles. So I’ll try to keep John Bingham’s words in regards to the first few miles in front of my eyes (something like): If you feel you¬†are running to fast, you are, slow down! If you feel you are running just right, you are going to¬†fast, slow down! ¬†

I had some pretty intense side pains during this run, which of course sent my mind wondering what caused them. I am trying to convince myself that the bagel I had just before I headed out the door is why I hurt. I haven’t had side pains like that in a long while and it’s not like I was running really hard.

This is 3 mile run was one of the few times I ran without a ‘bug in my ear’. I wanted to concentrate on my breathing. I am now toying with the idea of running the marathon without the mp3 player. (I might just put it on my belt, and the headphones in my pouch, just in case)

My boss came back from vacation today and his first words out his mouth where “Are you ready?” I said “Oh, am I ever!” and we both laughed. It is great to work for someone who has the same hobby you have. He’s actually toying with the idea of running a marathon…I am so excited for him, because he’s always tried making excuses “I am too old (58), I don’t have the time, blah blah, blah”, but I think he’s been bitten by the marathon bug!

My game plan today and tomorrow is to make a list of all the things I need to have ready for the big day.

Signed up for the Flying Feather Four Miler in November.

Some people, when they get nervous, they talk a lot…I write a lot! ūüėČ

8 miles @ home (11:24)

Comments: I did not feel like running on Saturday, so I didn’t. Instead I went out Sunday morning. It was a good run. Tried running a bit slower than last Tuesday, I succeeded.¬†I felt strong and was even able to do some pickups¬†the last two miles.

After I¬†got back the hubby (’06 Yamaha YFZ 450) and I (’06 Suzuki Quadsport)¬†went quadding for a few¬†hours at Wayne National¬†Forest. It is funny that I can run for two hours and not be really sore the next day, but the¬†quad riding has my muscles aching. It was fun, but I¬†felt like I had to concentrate really hard to make sure¬†I would not end up getting hurt.¬†

That day I enjoyed running more, because you can let your mind go and really don’t need to pay attention to anything (other than cars and road kill), but when you go quadding (we ride fairly fast) you constantly have to be thinking about¬†how¬†to hit the next rut, turn, etc. Exhausting!

I am taking Monday off to give my body time to recover and to do some school work.

This morning the hubby said “This¬†IS the week…” and started to make some goofy running guestures. lol

4 miles @ work

Comments: My Garmin was at 0 hours remaining when I turned it on this morning…oops! So I only have a general idea on how long I ran, about 41 min and I think I covered about 4 miles, maybe a tad bit short.

Love the cooler weather. ūüôā

I am driving my co-workers nuts (in a good way). They all agreed I started tapering way too soon, I should go out and run all that energy off.

After I came back from my run at lunch time my boss just looked at me and I said “4”! lol Boy am I glad he’s running the 1/2 marathon, he’s just as excited about it as I am! This way I’ll for sure keep my job!

The running group I am running with is supplying us with running singlets for the price of $5, I can’t complain about that. I was told they are orange (gosh now I have to find matching shorts! just kidding) and we should stand out in the crowd.

OMG…I am so excited I think I am gonna burst! Everytime I look out the window at work I see High Street (mile 12 through 17) and the starting area…I am soooo ready!

Forgot to turn my Garmin on until I hit mile 1! lol On Saturday I am going to try to run marathon pace (8 mile long run), which would be about a minute slower per mile.

Comments:¬†Busy, busy, busy…hopped on the elliptical rider hoping to get at least 5 miles on it, but my stomach had other plans. I think I might have cought a stomach bug from a co-worker, even though I keep telling myself “it’s just nerves” lol¬†¬†

5 miles @ home (10:47)

Comments: I had so much crap to do today, but I HAD to get my 5 miler in there. After all it was ONLY 5 miles. So with frustrations build up during the day I tried to run it all off and I sure did. I pushed myself the whole way. This has to be a PR for 5 miles at home! (Edit: I checked and it is a PR – woot!)

My right leg was tight in the beginning, my calve muscle hurt for a while and then it moved to the front of the leg, but it didn’t turn into any antagonizing pain, so I pushed through it. I am happy about this run because my 22 miler was so incredible slow.

Shoes: Saucony

Distance: 5

Comments: Rinse and repeat, same as Monday, except it was a hotter: Right leg was pretty stiff in the beginning, but after I warmed up it was bearable. The ball of my left foot under the middle toe still starts hurting¬†raound mile 3. ūüė¶

Found out today that my employer will reimburse me¬†some¬†of my marathon entry fee (Employee Activity Reimbursement). NICE! ūüôā

Bike @ home 12.02 miles

Comments: With the hubby out of town (meaning I can’t run in the PM and leave the youngest unattended) and tons of research to do for one of my classes I was not able to run today. I managed to hop on the stationary bike at home though for an hour.

The last 20 minutes flew by; the youngest came into the bedroom (where the bike’s at until the workout room is done) and pretended, feet in the¬†air,¬†to be peddeling her bike. We “raced” up and down hills, went around imaginary corners, and played “catch me if you can”. It was actually fun. ūüôā
