Day 5 – Group Run

Comments: I had a great run! It was nice to see familiar faces. There had to have been at least 400 people running, broken down into various pace groups, of course, but that’s a lot of people.

I hung with the 11:00 pace group, we ran 2.75 miles to the water stop, drank and turned around. The group stopped again shortly after mile 5, but I kept on going and finished out my 6 without stopping again. I have not felt this strong in a long time, AND I did intervals the day before. I am very happy about that.

School finals are approaching, I have two final papers to write and one final exam, plus another quiz. I can’t wait for this quarter to be over; just so it can all begin two weeks later again!

6 mile group run

Comments: Great group run. I took off with the 11 min/mile group, but they ended up going just a bit faster than that. Around mile 3, just before the water stop I pulled away. I got ‘picked up’ by two of the runners from the group and they settled into a 10 min mile pace. So I ran with them. I felt very good, very strong. And it was nice to be passing people and be in step with other runners. I almost felt like a Kenyan! lol

If I’ll  remind myself to go slow next week in the beginning I should have a really good race. I am curious to see what my body is capable of.

I wish good luck to all the runners that are racing tomorrow. You’ll be on my mind!

Group Run 8 miles (11:51)

Comments: Started off with the slower group, but pulled away from them at mile 3. My fastes mile was mile 8!!! I ran around Antrim Park thinking about running the 10 miler race there next weekend. I am still on the fence about that being that it doesn’t start until 9am. I’ll make that decision later on in the week, depending on the weather forecast.

Went quadding on Sunday. My legs were not sore at all from the 8 miler and the pushups I have been doing really helped with the handling of the quad. Hence I had a blast in the mud.

8 – Group Run (11:17)

Comments: Group Run. I decided to run with the group, but either way in the front or all the way in the back so I don’t feel like I need to follow the running rhythm of the person in front of me.

The group leader decided to go a sightly different route, through some neighbourhoods and then to the park/bike path. It made for an interesting run. Instead of following them back into the neighbourhood on the return, I decided to stay on the trail. I was worried that if I was to ‘die’ at the end I might loose them and be lost in the neighbourhood forever!

The weather was much nicer, overcast, than last week and my overall pace was 22 seconds per mile faster than during the 10k.

I have been toying with the idea to run the Detroit Marathon in October (a few friends of mine are running it), even gone so far as to reserve the hotel room, but now I feel like I really want to run the Columbus Marathon again. Good thing I still have a few months to make up my mind.

6 Group Run (11:30)

Comments: I was thinking that running with the 11 min/mile group should be safe. But not today. After mile 3 I had to walk. Side stitches had kicked in after about 1.5 miles and they ever so kindly stayed with me for the remainder of the run.

After running last year mostly by myself I came to realize today that I am not a pack rat, meaning I can’t run with a group. The last 3 miles I ran behind the group and did much better than the first half. I do enjoy the people in my pace group, but the next time I’ll go I’ll be running behind them and not in the middle of them. I felt like I was running in someone else’s shoes, being that we were running 2 by 2 and I had to match the person’s steps in front of me in order not to step onto their feet.

18 mile Group Run (11:30)

 

Comments: Overall a good run!

I GUed at mile 5, 9, and 14ish. It was important to me to finish mentally strong, so I made sure I was dehydrated and drank a lot of water the day before. It worked.

Around mile 14 – 15 my legs started getting really heavy, the muscles in my butt and legs started to hurt so I let the group I was running with get away from me. I didn’t want to push myself and still be that far from the end.

My left foot was getting sore under the middle toe bone starting at mile 5. At times I had to change my gait so I would be able to continue running. After I finished I was not able to put any weight down on it, and now, about 6 hours later, it finally getting better. I did ice it some after I got home. I plan on buying some inserts for my shoes, hoping that will fix the problem.

The last two miles were the toughest ones, but I was telling myself that my muscles needed the workout so they would get stronger. I listened to the book “Judge & Jury” the whole way instead of music.

It makes me chuckle when I look at the time, which is the longest I have ever run. Why? Because I can honestly say that I have given birth faster than it takes me to run 18 miles! lol

Tomorrow is a rest day! 🙂

10 miles Group Run (10:54)

Time: 7:00 am

Weather: Not sure…high 60’s, going up

Course: Group Run up and down Olentangy Trail

Comments: I felt like crap Friday night, I had gone to the doctor that day because I haven’t been able to turn my head to either side without pain (It doesn’t hurt while running). The doctor said I strained my muscle due to the way I sleep (mental note: pick up new pillow when going into town next time) and prescribed a muscle relaxant. That in turn messed with my stomach and made me a little woozie. So I had this internal acceptance that my long on might not be as strong as I thought it could be…

It didn’t start off too great…the side pains I experienced at the end of Friday’s run came back, but they dissapeared after about a 1/4 mile…woot!!! After that I decided to just plop myself behind one of our pace leaders and just let her guide my pace. We ran the first 3 miles in 32:17! I did not look at my watch though…we got something to drink at the waterstop, I GUed and on we went. At mile 5.5 the pace leader dropped out, stating she was only running 6 today (it was a 1/2 mile back to the starting place), so we continued on without her. I GUed at about mile 6.5. 4 of us had to run 12, and me and another girl (I can say girl, ’cause she seemed like my oldest son’s age – 19) had to run 10. At mile 8 we bid the 12 milers farewell and headed back. We just started chatting about training and running, and before we knew it we were back at our cars. The funny thing is we both agreed that if we were running by ourselves we’d be walking right now, but instead we ended up pushing each other a bit, which was nice because the last 1/4 mile is all uphill. Overall a very good run. 🙂

I am very glad that the 10 miler turned out so well. I am hoping that next weeks 15 miler (a distance PR) will be as good (I won’t be able to run with the group though, that’s gonna hurt a bit).
